NOSE RESHAPING
(RHINOPLASTY)
PROCEDURE
The typical rhinoplasty surgery requires an hour or two to perform. Furthermore, rhinoplasty may be performed under a general anesthetic or with a local anesthetic depending on the surgeon's and the patient's preference.
During the recovery process, it is not uncommon to experience minor bleeding, and gauze bandages must be changed a few times daily during the first few days following surgery. To relieve pain and discomfort, the surgeon may prescribe pain medication. Cold compresses will reduce associated pain and swelling.
In some rhinoplasty cases it may take over a year before one can accurately judge the permanent outcome of the rhinoplasty surgery due to the constant changing and healing of the nasal tissues, blood flow, skin thickness, etc. Occasionally a secondary rhinoplasty surgery may be required to achieve an optimal outcome.
Rhinoplasty or surgery to reshape the nose can reduce or enlarge the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip of the nose, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also repair birth defects, injury scars and help relieve breathing problems.
Nose job patients should also have specific goals and realistic expectations that will be discussed with the plastic surgeon before deciding to proceed with rhinoplasty.
